Holdenville’s cross country meets continue to get bigger and bigger! Case in point is that over 500 runners participated in last Saturday’s meet. The area around the boat ramp was crowded with buses and other vehicles. Holdenville cross country coach, Ryan Turner knows how to organize a good meet. Lake Ranger, Waylon Ford and the Hughes County Sheriff’s department all helped to make the meet a huge success.

The Holdenville High School soft ball team had a rough first week. The girls lost to Pittsburg 6-8, lost twice to Morris 3-19 and 2-10, lost to Byng 3-4 and lost to Bethel 2-10. Wolverine head Coach Rick Scott remains optimistic that his young team will mature and become a good team before the season’s over. Coach Scott had this to say about the first week of the 2022 season: “We are young about 85% underclassmen. Only 2 full time starters form last year’s team returned. We took it on the chin this week. It was a very tough week, however, with that said, we grew and we played better. We fought hard as a team! I knew we would struggle early on and we have our district schedule is brutal but I see signs of greatness! We just have to work through it, keep a positive attitude and believe in each other!
