HSPS Spring Art Show to be held

The Holdenville Society of Painters and Sculptors is holding its 2024 Spring Art Show at the HSPS Art Center, 118 N. Broadway in Holdenville, from April 28th thru May 10th. All students and artists of any skill level are invited to submit their artwork for the show and compete for cash prizes in each category. Paintings and other flat artwork must arrive ready to hang on our walls. Sculptures must be able to sit on a flat table or brought with a display stand. This show’s judge is Necia

Nearly 30 Arrested in Multi-agency Operation

A multi-agency, multi-county operation resulted in nearly 30 arrests and the seizure of weapons, cash, and illicit drugs last week. According to a press release from District Attorney Erik Johnson’s office, law enforcement officers from various agencies initiated by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, joined forces for a saturation operation in Seminole, Hughes, and Okfuskee counties, resulting in “significant achievements and positive community impact.” Johnson said that the weeklong operation in which 37 arrest warrants were served yielded 29 arrests, the confiscation of six guns and $1,000 in cash.

These students were nominated by the faculty based on their scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities and character.

SHELTER DOGS UP FOR EUTHANIZATION-COME ADOPT!

The Holdenville Animal Shelter was I informed Monday, April 22nd that the city wants ten dogs euthanized each week until there is a manageable amount. We don’t know what the number is yet for manageable amount. The ADOPTION EVENT that was supposed to be last Saturday at Walmart and Sovereign Bank was postponed due to rain, but is planned for this coming Saturday, April 25th from 11am til 1pm. Dogs will be at the Sovereign Bank parking lot with free hotdogs and chips while they last. All dogs are completely vetted including spayed and neutered. Halo will have a table set up at Walmart for people to donate dog food and other items needed for the shelter. Just do your shopping and pickup and item for the shelter and drop it off at the table on your way to your car. Little Dog Closet will have a booth with items needed for your new dog. The first 8 people to adopt a dog will receive $25. To purchase items for their new dog. This is sponsored by Tony Akin of Galveston, Tx. Former Holdenville resident and 1978 graduate of Holdenville High School. We are going to see if we can schedule the Rolling Glacier for snow cones. That is pending right now.
