Our sympathy is extended to the family of Sara Majors
Sara Yvonne Majors passed away at her home in Holdenville on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Sara is the daughter of Joe and May (Stewart) Smith, born on November 24, 1936 in Ada, Oklahoma. She was brought up and attended schools in Holdenville, and graduated Holdenville High School with the Class of 1954. She married David Majors in August of 1956, and except for a brief year when they owned and operated a Lodge in Red River, New Mexico, Holdenville was their home.
Sara was the office manager and bookkeeper for their various enterprises in Holdenville including Majors Flowers and Majors Laundry, as well as their trucking company and plumbing business. She became employed in 1985 by First National Bank in Holdenville, where she worked for twenty years. She retired in 2005 and began devoting time to serving the community by volunteering with Fishes & Loaves, Community Angels, and being actively involved in the Ladies Auxiliary at Faith Free Will Baptist Church.
She was a great cook and enjoyed her home. She loved everything about being outside, working in her yard, tending her flowers, and she especially loved birds. She was much loved and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and May Smith; her grandson, James Bryce Dolton; seven siblings and their spouses: Joe and Hazel Smith, Edward Gordon and Lillian Smith, Anne and Karl Nease, James and LaRuth Smith, Wendell and Betty Rose Smith, Winfred and Sammye Smith, and Asa and Betty Smith.
She is survived by two children, Mark Majors and wife Betty, and Monica Carpenter and husband, Michael, all of Holdenville; one granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Armstrong and husband Jon, of Bakersfield, California; three great-grandchildren, Emerson Grey Armstrong, Georgia Claire Armstrong, and Caroline Quinn Armstrong of Bakersfield, California.
Memorial services were held on Monday, December 9th, 10:00 a.m., at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Holdenville, with Rev. Earl Scroggins officiating.
