Centenarian Eileene Varley Stirman passes away

The family of Eileene Varley Stirman announce her recent death at 102 years young on 12-12-2022. She was born on August 17, 1920, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Daniel Boone and Lulu Varley. Eileene was a resident of the Heritage Village Retirement and Nursing Home at the time of her death. The family extends much appreciation to the care and long-term services provided.

Eileene’s family moved to Holdenville where she attended and graduated from High School in 1937, following college at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The love of her life and husband, Captain George R. Stirman, Jr were married in 1940 prior to his service as pilot during WWII. Their first child, George R. Stirman III, was born in 1945, at Patterson Airfield, Ohio. Eileene moved during the war back to Holdenville where her father, Boone Varley, was building a new home for Eileene and Captain Stirman on Hughes Drive. Three additional children, Susan, John, and Paul arrived later. They were raised and educated in Holdenville.

Eileene served her community as Boy Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. She made many trips to the baseball fields and the golf course in Wewoka. She often said later that she felt like a short order cook while raising four children and scheduled activities. She was devoted and a life member of Bernard United Methodist Church. She worked at Chesnut Motor Company before taking over the family business, Eckles & Stirman Hartford Insurance Company located at the First National Bank of Holdenville following the death of husband on 1-11971. Much later she sold the insurance business to the late Jack Booth of Holdenville. Eileene then assisted John & Teresa Stirman with the ownership of Majors Florist for several years before retiring.

Education, sports, church, and music were paramount to the Stirman family. Traits that would be passed on to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eileene will be remembered by friends and family. She was a role model for those who loved her, and she leaves countless memories and love that will be missed.

The surviving family includes MAJ George Rod Stirman III and Nancy of Perry, OK, Susan Stirman of Holdenville, John Varley Stirman and Teresa of Holdenville, Paul M. Stirman and Lori of Grove, Oklahoma. Grandchildren are Mary Margaret Stirman-Ambler of Olathe, KS, Amy Marie Stirman- Roy and Jason of Overland Park, KS, John M.

Stirman and Robin of Richmond, TX. Her nephew Jack Holmes of Holdenville. Her great-grandchildren are Daniel Ambler, Kirby Eileene Ambler, Hayden Roy, Alexander Roy, Charlie Roy, and Brody Roy, all of Kansas. In Richmond, Texas, there is Madison and Luke Stirman. Her great-great grandchildren are Arabella and Christian Ambler of Louisburg, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband George R. Stirman, Jr, her parents, her stepmother and sister-Eva Castor, and her sister Reba Varley Holmes formerly of Holdenville. A Memorial service is being planned by the family later. Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville is arranging private service with interment at Holdenville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials to be given to Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church of Holdenville, Oklahoma, or the charity of choice.
