Ima Lee Lankford age 99, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was born April 2, 1924 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to the late Minnie Sota (Brown) Morris. She married Homer Lankford on May 24, 1941 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

The Holdenville Painters and Sculptors Society announces a fund-raising workshop to further support and keep the Society of Painters and Sculptors open to the public after the society has had to meet a major expense. This fun two-day workshop in ceramic will begin the morning of March 9th with a final class on March 30th at the Art Center located at 118 N. Broadway, in Holdenville. This workshop is scheduled to allow those who may not be able to attend weekday workshops to attend a Saturday morning workshop from 10:00am to noon to begin a ceramic piece on March 9th and then return on Saturday March 30th again at 10:00 am to glaze the piece in the glaze of their choice. The pieces will be fired by volunteer instructor June Melton and be ready to pick up after final completion during regular HSPS hours. This class is suitable for children 10 years and older accompanied by an adult also taking the class. HSPS operates on funds received from membership fees and donations, and partially from funds from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Jim passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones on September 24, 2023 at the age of 77 years. Jim was born to Homer Clell Lankford and Ima Lee (Morris) Lankford in Holdenville.

Caren Marie Bennett passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at her home in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 72. Caren was born May 25, 1951 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Ardal Hayes and Frances (Hampton) Hayes.

With winter coming to and end and Spring just around the corner, many area residents are already starting to take advantage of the warmer weather to start trimming back the dead and lengthy limbs on their property. Others may have dead limbs and branches from the summer storms that need to be cleaned up. Street Commissioner Jim Thetford reminds Holdenville residents that the City of Holdenville will be providing the traditional Fall curbside pickup of brush and limbs during the month of October so they can begin planning their yard work strategy.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, today issued a statement following the final passage of House Bill 1955, by McCall, which eliminates the state’s portion of the grocery tax, through the Oklahoma Senate by a vote of 42-2. The bill was passed by the House 11 months ago, and has been awaiting a vote in the Senate along with an income tax cut.
