Holdenville Lions Club met at Boom a Rang Diner on 5-625. The Minutes of the 4-22-25 meeting were read by Lion Jerrie Lindsey, and approved unanimously. Treasurer, Lion Steve Enos gave the Treasurer’s report that both accounts were up-to-date. There was enough in the Service account to cover the $2000 scholarships and the donation to Point of Grace Sober Living home had been given. The Treasurer’s report was approved unanimously.

SHERIFF TEAGUE SHARES THOUGHTS ON FUTURE OF HUGHES COUNTY JAIL

Hughes County Sheriff Trever Teague is sounding the alarm on the future of the Hughes County Jail, outlining the tough decisions ahead and offering what he believes is a practical path forward. In a recent discussion with the Holdenville News, Sheriff Teague laid out the county’s two main options: attempting to repair the existing facility or working to build a new one from the ground up.

On October 20, 1911, The Postmaster reported to the City council that Holdenville could become eligible for free house delivery of mail, but certain things w2ould have to be changed. First new sidewalks would have to be built, because too much of the town was almost inaccessible due to lack of sidewalks. Also, there were no numbers on the houses. A system for numbering houses would have to be implemented.

Pitts Takes Office as Special Judge

Ryan H. Pitts has been officially sworn as Special Judge of Seminole and Hughes Counties. District Judge Brett W. Butner originally announced the appointment on April 21, 2025. Pitts’ appointment was subsequently approved by all nine (9) District Judges in the South Central Administrative District. “I am pleased to welcome Ryan Pitts to serve as Special Judge for Seminole and Hughes Counties,” said Judge Butner. “His leadership, experience, and expertise will be an invaluable addition to our judiciary.”
