That guy had an amazing life: If you think about it in vernacular terms, he spent his childhood and young adulthood doing an unpaid internship with Moses, learning everything his teacher had to offer and getting a front-row seat to some of the greatest miracles God ever did.

An early 99th Birthday Brunch Surprise for Joy Simmons (a/k/a Tootsie): Pastor Claude and Reinette Butler (retired pastor and his wife of First Baptist Church, Wetumka) graciously opened up their hearts and home to longtime church friends in honor of Joy’s 99th birthday. Joy’s birthday is April 19th; perhaps coincidentally, 19 friends joined in the surprise.

HHS GRADUATE PHIL JOHNSON INDUCTED INTO SSC HALL OF FAME

Phil Johnson was selected as an inductee into the Seminole State College Hall of Fame at the 30th Annual Educational Foundation Banquet to be held on Thursday, May 1. Johnson, a Holdenville Graduate and a 1988 graduate of then Seminole Junior College, serves as State Director of the Oklahoma Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution System.

CITY INSPECTOR OUTLINES PROCESS FOR DEALING WITH DILAPIDATED STRUCTURES

At the recent Holdenville City Council meeting, City Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer Ron Wiseman addressed growing public interest regarding how the city handles the removal of dilapidated buildings. In response to several inquiries, Wiseman issued a “Public Nuisance Abatement Checklist for Dilapidated Buildings,” outlining each step of the process.
NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS SWORN IN, NEW MAYOR ELECTED AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING IN HOLDENVILLE. Tammy White was sworn in to her first term as City Counciwomen over Ward 2. Mike Dockrey was sworn in over Ward 3, Don Merriman over Ward 4, and Lori Babb sworn in as the at-large member. One of the first orders of business was to elect a mayor for the upcoming term. The council voted unanimously in favor of Mike Dockrey’s nomination of Lori Babb as Holdenville’s newest Mayor.
