The Wolverines are expected to field a variety of excellent athletic teams this year and the students cheering them on have already proven themselves as award winners! Cheer coach Leslie Phillips was excited to announce the awards the cheerleaders earned during summer clinic!

Coaches take courses about Athletic Injuries Every person who works as a coach in an Oklahoma public school is required to take a series of courses in athletic injuries. Wolverine coaches have already had the college level course in Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries.
Izaia King put a move on this defender during a 7 on 7 passing league contest. Fall football practice is less than 3 weeks away and King is expected to be a major play maker for the 2021 Wolverines!

Wolverines Welcome New Head Coach Thomas Walser has been selected as Holdenville’s new football coach. Walser takes over for Coach Monte Lewis who has moved back to Kansas to become the head coach at a Wichita area high school.
Wolverine Head Coach, Thomas Walser and Wolverine defensive coordinator, Darin Johnson, took this group of players to Beggs to participate in a passing league tournament! The Wolverines will begin practice August 10.

Holdenville Wolverine, Cash Carter, was busy working hard in the Wolverines’ Summer Pride workouts. There are less than 35 days until the season begins!

50 YEARS AGO Our friend Andy Massey brought our attention to the fact that this is the 50th anniversary of the year his close friend and fellow classmate, Billy Janes, won the state discuss throw championship. Andy recalls Bill being full grown by the time he was 15 years old.

It’s a Winner! Everyone loves a winner! Oklahoma fans especially love a winner! The University of Oklahoma softball team produced a National Championship and the crimson and cream crowd has suddenly developed a severe love for softball! Oklahoma State put an excellent team on the field this year too! Oklahoma State didn’t bring home a national championship trophy but they earned the right to play in the college world series and that’s quite an accomplishment. There are two levels of softball fans.
Jaxson Teel took some time out from summer athletics to go fishing with his Papa. Twenty years from now will he remember what happened in summer athletics? Or will he remember catching a 20 pound blue cat?

School Sports Take on a Summer Flavor Secondary schools sports programs have entered a summer time mode. Spring football, early morning track workouts, summer league baseball, summer league softball and team camps for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs are all gearing up to give their team members a chance to grow and learn in the off season.

Wolverine Spring Football Begins The Holdenville High School football coaching staff welcomed over 30 Wolverine athletes to the first day of spring football practices last week. According to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association each program can have ten days of practices and Holdenville will finish their allotted workouts this week.
They didn’t melt! The 2021 Holdenville Wolverine football team began their two weeks of Spring workouts in the rain. Holdenville will workout everyday this week in preparation for the 2021 grid iron season.

Girls’ Relay Team State Runner-Up

Wolverines State Runner-Up The Holdenville Wolverine track team finished the 2021 season with two state runner-up finishes at the class 3A track meet at Catoosa. The Holdenville relay team finished second behind Beggs in both the 4x100 relay and the 4x200 relay.
The Phillips twins won a combination of 5 medals at the state 3A meet. Leigha won two medals and Laynee won three.
