By Ken Childers Editor, Seminole Producer American Legion Post 204 is flying a burial flag the month of September in honor of a fallen U.S. Air Force veteran who was also a longtime educator.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at approximately 6:32 PM central dispatch notified deputy Josh Kelley of the Hughes County Sheriff’s department that a male subject identified as Jade Robinson, 41 of Wetumka, was inside the residence of his parents’ home at 1601 East Highway in Holdenville with a firearm shooting. Hughes County deputies Langdon, Teague, Defranco, and Kelley all responded to the call.

If I were superintendent of schools for a week, I’d make some curriculum changes you wouldn’t believe. For one thing, I’d take out English and history repetitions each year and only present it once or twice when it would do the most good. I would have math problems that resembled real life— instead of figuring how many pencils in five gross. (Did you ever buy a gross of anything in your life?) I would have kids figuring out how many Good Humor bars it would cost them if they had just broken the garage window and would have to forfeit their allowance of 45 cents for 21 weeks.

Long hours, dangerous conditions and remote, rural locations have meant fewer guards and a system plagued with increased killings and violence.

On the night of September 20, 2022 law enforcement was dispatched to the home of Bill and Miranda Freeman at 222 Warren Street when a neighbor called 911 about domestic violence in progress. In her petition to the Hughes County Court for a protective order against Bill Freeman, Miranda Freeman states: “[My] spouse found an old message on my phone and lost his s***. He went inside and pushed me around. I pushed back and he punched me in the vagina. I smacked him to get him off me and went to our outside man cave. He came out, beat on the door and windows. He then began busting the windows. He acted like he was going to go inside so I sat down with my friends. He came back out, punched the window and busted it. He put in the code to the door and forced himself in despite me leaning on it. He grabbed me by the hair and began punching me in the face repeatedly by calling me a stupid c***. I fought back as best I could. The neighbors called the cops. He went outside and was then arrested. I think he broke my nose.”
