George Calvin Loman, lifelong Seminole County resident, passed away at his son’s home in Haileyville, Oklahoma on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 93 years. Calvin was the son of Chris and Ethel Mae (Halk) Loman, born on May 6, 1928, in the Salem community near Henryetta, Oklahoma.

Betty’s story began before she was born on August 10, 1930 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. God’s hand has been on her life 91 years, starting a few weeks after “the baby in a basket” left on the hotel steps was adopted by JG and Lois Cummins, whom God entrusted to raise as their own, to love, teach, and dedicated their infant baby’s life to the Lord.

My beloved Father, Ray Eldridge Birdwell, nicknamed Daddio by me, age 90 of Holdenville, Oklahoma, passed away January 22, 2022. He was born in Henderson, Texas to Trula Fae True and Dayton Birdwell.

Lenval Ray Woodruff, 88, of Calvin, Oklahoma passed away from natural causes on January 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Lenval was born on July 24, 1933, to Homer and Ida Woodruff in Hanna, Oklahoma.

Richard Wayne Nunes passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the age of 62. Richard was born June 14 th , 1959 in Castro Valley, California to Joyce Enoch and Ernest Nunes.

City Clerk, Linda Owenby submitted her letter of resignation at the Holdenville City Council Meeting Friday night. March 31, 2022 will be her last day in office. Linda has been a valuable part of of the staff at city hall not only as clerk, but also as office manager and she will be missed. The News wishes her the very best in all of her future endevours.

ANDY MASSEY HAS A VISION FOR THE HOLDENVILLE LAKE…..AND HE IS ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT! In 1969, Andy Massey and his family moved to Holdenville when his father, Elmer Massey, was hired as the High School principal. Andy graduated from Holdenville High School in 1973.

Often times, people assume that all they know is all there is to know. They assume that if they don’t know something, it simply must be because it hasn’t happened. Nothing could be truer for those who spend a good portion of their time on Facebook criticizing the work of Holdenville’s Mayor and City Council. These critics assume because they have not been at the table when decisions were made and have not heard about the things that were done, that the mayor and council must be sitting on their hands, laughing as they watch the city fall. Nothing could be further from the truth. The current mayor, John Massad and several council members have been working around the clock to keep this city propped up and functioning week to week. The idea that our mayor works “part-time” is laughable to anyone who has actually been involved in the work of the city these past three years and not just criticizing from the bleachers. The following is not a complete list, but only a few of the things the new administration has accomplished since being elected in April of 2019.

Lemesa Wainscott Byrd was born on April 29, 1930 in Stuart, Oklahoma to Pete & Annie (Cross) Wainscott. Lemesa peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the age of 91.

Rayburn Delmore “Ray” Allen, age 77 and a long-time resident of Holdenville, Oklahoma passed away January 23, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family. A memorial graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
