Charlie Robert Self was born on August 18, 1925, the only child of Joe Otis and Cecelia (McKeown) Self, at Dixie Lease oil camp southeast of Wewoka, Oklahoma, in what was then part of the world’s largest oil field. He passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022, in Mustang, OK at age 96. Charlie was raised in and around Seminole County by his mother. She died when he was 15 and Charlie went to live with his Granny Newby in Konawa.

Holdenville Girls excel The Holdenville High School girl’s basketball team had two excellent outings this past week. Holdenville avenged a disappointing 2 point loss to Prague in the Consolation finals of the 66 Conference Tournament by walloping the Red Devils 52-25 on Friday night.

My wife and I recently watched a documentary about the British royal family in the years just before World War II. The Duke of Windsor had been made King but then abdicated his throne because he wanted to marry an American divorcee named Wallis Simpson. His younger brother, Bertie, was then crowned King George and shortly thereafter Britain was plunged into war with Nazi Germany.
