Wolverines chalk up 2 wins The Holdenville Wolverine boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both put two games in the win column this past week with wins over Allen and Chandler. The victories put the boys record at 10-10 with a three game winning streak.

Holdenville basketball teams throttle Konawa Both the Holdenville boy’s and girl’s basketball teams made the 2023 Homecoming festivities an event to remember. The evening began with Dierre Olden crowning Madi McFarland as the 2023 Homecoming Queen and Madi reciprocating and crowning Dierre as the Homecoming King! After all the pictures and usual things that go along with Homecomings, the Holdenville Boys went to work and completely humbled the Konawa Tigers by a lopsided score of 82-39.
Bella Smith went 5 for 8 from 3 point land in Holdenville’s victory over Konawa. Holdenville will host Allen on Tuesday and Chandler on Friday.

Holdenville girls wallop Prague The Holdenville High School girls played an extremely good Prague team last Friday. Both teams were ranked and it was billed as a showdown between the highly ranked Wolverines and the highly ranked Red Devils.

Tom Turner has been a familiar face in and around Holdenville for most of his life. He is originally from Illinois but explains that his parents, Rev. Richard and Corean Turner moved to Holdenville when he was 11 years old and in the 6th grade. His father was the pastor at Harvest Time Church.

The Holdenville School girls’ basketball team didn’t play well the first time they faced off with an extremely good Okemah team. The final score of 61-41 indicated a total dominance by the Panthers. Holdenville was embarrassed! They knew they were a better team than the 20 point losing margin indicated thus the girls had something to prove when the met the Panthers again in the 66 Conference Tournament! The girls did prove they were better than they played against Okemah the first time. This time the 66 Conference Tournament Championship was on the line and Holdenville came to play for the trophy. The Wolverines played like a totally different team than they did just 11 days earlier when Okemah embarrassed them on the Wolverines home court. This time Wolverines were dominate! The resulting score of 56-41 not only reestablished Holdenville’s respect as a team to be reckoned with but it earned them a trophy to be cherished for decades to come.
The Holdenville High School girl’s basketball team won the 66 Conference Tournament with a 56-41 win over Okemah in the Championship Finals. The Holdenville girls had a rough time with Okemah but the boys came through big time and saved a split with the Panthers. The girl’s contest was a battle between two of the state’s top teams.
Ryleigh Hill led the Wolverines in scoring with 14. points in Holdenville’s 38-37 win over Lone Grove. Ryleigh is the Holdenville News Wolverine of the Week.

Holdenville Girls Shine at Konawa The Holdenville High School girls’ basketball squad played well in the Tiger Classic Tournament at Konawa High. Holdenville thrashed Casady High 57-21 in the first round, destroyed Destiny Christian in the semi-finals and fell 46-28 to Washington in the finals.
