Beloved Holdenville Educator Passes Away
Judith Gayle Miller passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family and friends. She was the daughter of Avis and Lytle Anderson of Alva, Oklahoma. Judy graduated from Alva High School in 1959 and continued her education at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where she earned her degree in 1963.
While attending Southwestern, she met Larry Miller, and they were married in the spring of that same year. Judy later earned her master’s degree from Pittsburg State Teacher’s College in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Judy and Larry made their home in Kansas for nine years, during which time their son, Todd, and daughter, Cassandra, were born. In 1972, the family moved to Lone Grove, Oklahoma, where sons Troy and Trent were born. In 1976, they settled in Holdenville, Oklahoma, where Judy dedicated 22 years to teaching elementary school before retiring in 2001. Judy was an active member of her community. She was involved in OETA, the Holdenville Mother’s Club, Methodist Women, and proudly served as a Pink Lady. She found great joy in spending time with her family, attending ball games, and playing cards and bingo.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Miller, of the home; her four children: Todd Miller and wife Lisa of Denison, Texas; Cassandra Timko of Wichita, Kansas; Troy Miller and wife Amanda of New Lima, Oklahoma; and Trent Miller and wife Miya of Tuttle, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: McKinzie Miller, Michaela Miller, Trayson Miller, Kelsey Jones, Trenity Miller, Havyn Miller, and Blakely Miller; and one greatgranddaughter, Taiya Jones. Judy is further survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Jim Walker of Nickerson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Avis and Lytle Anderson, and her brother, Larry Anderson.
Pallbearers will be Leon Barrett, Gary DeShields, Jim Winkle, Bobby Black, Richard Barrett, and Mike Cowart.
Viewing was held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, and from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Interment followed at Holdenville Cemetery.
