Good morning to you. It has finally turned summer time and the heat is on. Let’s hope this summer passes as fast as the rest of the year has! For our Study today I would like for you to visualize the word, disciple. What comes to your mind? Do you see the twelve men in sandals traveling through Galilee with JESUS? Or do you see a Church like yours filled with people with open Bibles in their hands? Either we think of a disciple in terms of the first-century apostles, or we think of a disciple as a souped-up version of an ordinary Christian, someone more enthused for CHRIST than others. But the word disciple was the primary New testament word to describe ordinary believers like you and me. That term occurs thirty times in the books of Acts, and it isn’t limited to the twelve disciples in the Bible.

The annual Holdenville Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Spring Car Show filled the streets in all directions from the intersection of Broadway and 7th Street with highly interesting cars, trucks, motorcycles and other vehicles on Saturday, June 5. The slight chance of rain that had been predicted never arrived during the show, and the overcast skies kept temperatures pleasant for most of the day.

This 1950 Ford Crestliner is very similar to the one FRANK AND KAY PITCOCK went in on the their first date. There were only 1,760 of these cars made and they sold for $1,700.00. If Frank would have had this car when he had his Holdenville News paper route, he could have finished a lot quicker than he did on his bicycle. Frank and Kay got married May 27, 1961. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They are great friends and two of the finest people I have ever known. Because of the generosity of Reggie Davis and his wife Lori Loftis Davis our local American Legion organization has a home. The building is located at 211 e. Main (where Dr. Jerry Anderson’s office used to be).

Sales tax disbursements and use tax disbursements were down for both the month and the year in the City of Holdenville and Hughes County, according to the monthly report released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) on Tuesday, June 8. The monthly press release explains that the June 2021 distribution of sales tax collections by the OTC primarily represents local tax receipts from April business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from April 16th to 30th and estimated sales from May 1st to the 15th.

Danielle Sullivan received the First United Bank scholarship, the Clow scholarship, the Security State Bank scholarship, the Rose Marie Lowther scholarship, the American Legion scholarship, the CCA Davis Correctional scholarship, and the Hughes County Conservation scholarship.

Seventeen years old and with four years’ farming experience, William Newton Stokes arrived in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in 1905 and worked as freight agent and at teaming until 1908, when he was appointed clerk of the Seminole County Court at Konawa, a position he held until 1914. Born in 1888, at Bentonville, Arkansas, son of John N. and Mary E. (now deceased) Stokes, natives of that State, he attended the public schools near his rural home until he had completed the course they offered. While court clerk Mr. Stokes studied law, and in June, 1914, was admitted to the bar and formed the partnership of Pryor and Stokes, which has continued since with offices at Holdenville and Wewoka.
