He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater December 11, 2021 and has been accepted into The Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York, after a highly competitive selection process (he is one of only five accepted in the nation).

OFFICER KILLED AT DAVIS CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

KOCO NEWS 5 – HOLDENVILLE, OK An officer was killed at the Davis Correctional Facility in Holdenville. In a press release from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, an officer died from an injury sustained after an attack by an inmate on Sunday.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES

Three people have been charged with trafficking in illegal drugs after a traffic stop in Wetumka. At approximately 2:40pm on July 9, Officer Jeremy Chasteen of the Wetumka Police Department pulled over a white Chevy pickup for speeding, 36mph in a 25mph zone. While asking the driver for his license and registration, Officer Chasteen smelled a strong smell of what he believed to be marijuana. He asked the driver, later identified as Estaban Duenas, 25 of Port Arthur, Texas, if he had any marijuana in his possession. Duenas stated to Officer Chasteen that he had a couple of roached in the ashtray that they had just finished smoking. After Duenas came back clear of any warrants, Officer Chasteen asked if he could search the vehicle. Duenas hesitated before telling the officer that there was a little bit more marijuana under the front passenger seat. Under the seat, Officer Chasteen found a jar full of green leafy substance of what appeared to be marijuana. Throughout the rest of the vehicle, the officer found more marijuana, a 9mm magazine full of bullets, a pink purse with $674.00 in it. In the chrome toolbox on the back of the truck, Officer Chasteen found several clear bags of what appeared to be marijuana. Officers found a total of almost 45 pounds of marijuanain the vehicle. Officer Chasteen also found $3,739.00 in passenger, Daniel Estrada’s wallet.

Pageturners Book Club Enjoys Launch

Newly formed Pageturners Book Club held its first meeting on Thursday, July 21 at Grace M. Pickens Library. The book club is sponsored by the library and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and is the “brainchild” of Librarian Kim McNaughton, local author Judy Goodspeed, retired HHS English instructor, Randa Phillips, and Byron Tapley of Wetumka.
