The Holdenville Junior High and High School Powerlifting Teams excelled in the first meet at Little Axe. The sport of Girls’ Powerlifting is really taking off. Every competition features a gym full of young ladies. RaeLee Johnson and KylieRae Leftwich were the top high school lifters.

The Holdenville High School Girls Basketball Team crossed a milestone on Tuesday when they defeated the Luther Lions. The Wolverines have had a tough season and the girls picked up their first win of the season with the 40-29 victory. Holdenville has played some really close games but something always went wrong in the final ticks of the clock. The girls were determined this time though and put the game away with crisp shooting and a ton of hustle. The girls put 24 points on the board in the first half and led 24-14. Luther came out hot after the half and closed the gap to 24-18. Just as the game looked as though things would deteriorate for the Wolverines like it has in the past, Darcy Shepherd hit a long shot from behind the arch and then added an important lay-up. Lexxi Goolsby and Makayla Blackshire added a point apiece and Holdenville regained their composure.

January is School Board Appreciation month and Holdenville Public schools would like to recognize and say thank you for the service and support of our local school board. The following members of the board serve a 5 year term and throughout their term, spend countless hours supporting our school system.

The Holdenville City Council addressed a wide range of city business during two December meetings, including police equipment upgrades, property transactions, utility system challenges, and ongoing economic development discussions.

Melvin and Gladys Swinhart were life long friends and neighbors here in Holdenville and two of the finest Christians I have ever known. I still miss them.
