Remembering Pido

Body
I always thought it to be a strange name- “Pido”. His 4-letter first nama had began its regular appearance in our church bulletins soon after Pearl Harbor had been attacked by the Japanese and sometime later we learned he was a prisoner of war. Pido’s family was well known and prominent in the Centrahoma area and the word we received about these poor prisoners was not good.

Yep, it’s that time again, when we all take a look at our past years and cast our eyes forward to the future — which we suppose might be an improvement over the past. It’s Sunday afternoon as I sit down to write this which I will simply think of as my “New Years Column.” Well, I guess I need to call it something.

Now that I am on the downhill slide toward celebrating 90 years on this earth, seems I come up with more advice for others. Not that I adhere to any or any of these suggestions, but some of them sounded like fun.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I realize how blest I have been over my life. Since high school on I have worked at jobs I really enjoy. I think we should be asking seniors “What do you love doing?” instead of “Where are you going to college?”

To Be or Not To Be To be or not to be. That was the question William Shakespeare posed once upon a time. That may well be the question that is put to the American people in this present hour. America and Americans are a “different” people in this world. The mixture of cultures and races has brought about a very unique nation. Many of the early settlers to this country were Christians. They brought their beliefs and culture with them and this nation grew up in them. Not perfect by any means but better than anything that had been available before in the known history of the world.

Darn, I’m older than dirt!! ….enjoy a little stroll down memory lane… Someone asked the other day,,,,,,,,,,,,,’What was my favorite fast food when growing up?’ We didn’t have fast food when I was growing up, I informed him, ‘All the food was “slow.’ ‘It was a place called home,’ I explained! Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table and if I didn’t like what she put on my plate, I was allowed to sit there until I did like it. By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn’t tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.
