We Would Not be Free if it Were Not for Heroes Like Vance Vanhooser.

Body
Vance Vanhooser was a life-long resident of Holdenville. His wife Mabel was well known and loved by everyone. Their son, Vance Jr. is a close friend of mine who lives in Okemah. What many folks don’t know is that Vance was a World War II hero and kept a journal of his service. Today, we share a portion of that journal with you.
The above picture was taken in the 1980’s when WWII Veteran William Reid (center) came to Holdenville to visit his comrades, Emery Hutchings (left) and Vance Vanhooser (right). Mr Reid lived in California and had not seen Emery and Vance since the war ended. All three served on the same crew in the 94th Bomb Group, 333rd Squadron, during World War II. The three buddies had not seen each other for 46 years.
