HooRay! We had 11 Red Hat Ladies that traveled to Pete’s Place in Krebs, OK to join in an Italian dinner and all the fixings! It was a fun event!! We had one new lady to join us from Lamar. This was our first meeting since December so you can image all the chatter that went on. It was so good to see everyone!!

Hughes County residents uninjured in 5 car fatality accident

A Hughes County driver with four passengers was involved in a five-vehicle accident with one fatality on I-40 Sunday morning. There were no injuries reported in the 2020 Ford Expedition driven by Jack Chapman, 82, Calvin. Passengers were former Holdenville resident Kenneth Chestnut, 78, now living in Sherman, Texas; Beverly Chapman, 79, Calvin; one juvenile male, 11, Holdenville, and another 13-year-old male juvenile, also from Holdenville.

Voting irregularity leads to Calvin special election

A petition filed in the District Court of Hughes County alleging two irregularities in the Calvin election has resulted in a court order for a runoff between two candidates, although the candidate filing the petition isn’t one of them.

Student assaults teacher in HJHS classroom

(Editor’s note: Story includes vulgarity or graphic content, etc.) A Holdenville teacher recently resigned after a confrontation with a student which was captured on video. Diane Bennett -- after teaching at Holdenville Schools for 23 years -- submitted a letter of resignation to the Holdenville School Board after the incident, and it was accepted at an April 19 special meeting.

City Council welcomes new members

The Holdenville City Council began their April 20 meeting with four new members taking the Oath of Office. These new members, elected April 6, are: Ward 1 - Bill Freeman; Ward 2 - Amber Hunter Orr; Ward 3 - Lori Babb; Ward 4 - Michelle Skipworth. City Clerk Linda Ownbey renewed her Oath of Office. The new members join current members Jeanna Gordon, Tony Wulf, Lynn Lantz and John Giles on the Council.
SWEARING IN - City Clerk Linda Ownbey and four new Holdenville City Council members were sworn in and began their duties at the beginning of the April 20 City Council meeting. The oath was administered by Holdenville City Attorney Trey Irby to (left to right) Ownbey, Amber Hunter Orr, Bill Freeman, Michelle Skipworth, and Lori Babb.
