Service to be held for Edna Frances Carter
Edna Frances Carter (September 11, 1930-May 9, 2024) was born just north of Prague Oklahoma to Kurt J. and Frances Brauer. Edna attended a small elementary school in the country before graduating from Prague High School in 1947.
Oran and Edna were married in 1949 and lived mainly in Lawton and Holdenville. Edna enjoyed sewing, crafts and stayed busy with volunteering in PTA, cub scouts, brownies, girl scouts, band boosters, church activities, hospital pink ladies, gardening and caring for her family. Edna was always present and supportive of her children’s activities - everything from livestock shows to music lessons, concerts, softball games and swimming lessons.SheandOran braved hazardous road conditions in support of their children’s activities and interests.
She always made sure her family had what they needed and that the logistics were at least feasible. Family vacations were a big event for the family. The annual two week vacations at Lake Tenkiller where the family camped, waterskied and fished were especially cherished. After retirement, Oran and Edna loved to travel to both new and familiar places. They often shared the trips with friends and family.
Edna was preceded death by husband of 62 years, Oran; infant son, Jeffery; her parents; brother Walter Brauer; and sister Elsie Nelson.
Edna is survived by a son, Dr. Mark Carter and his wife Jennifer of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Dr. Janet Tracy and husband George Fahlund of San Antonio; a grandson, Dr Andrew Carter; nieces and nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers Family requests donations to Barnard Memorial Methodist Church Volunteers in Missions or Girl Scouts of America.
Graveside service will be 10:30am, Friday, May 17th, at Kellerby Cemetery, Prague, Oklahoma with Pastor Kris Mayberry officiating. Interment will follow at Kellerby Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.
