Loretta Jane Tobey
Loretta Jane Brewer Tobey stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in Oklahoma City. She was born February 10, 1943, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Elmer B. Brewer and Velma Ledbetter Brewer. She graduated from Holdenville High School and dedicated more than a decade of service to the Holdenville Daily News before retiring.
Loretta lit up everyone room with her beauty and sweet, loving smile. She loved to laugh. Loretta was intelligent, inquisitive, and exceptionally well-read. Throughout her life she was always learning and quick to embrace new things. A natural-born problem solver, she always seemed to have the right tool at the right time. She was prepared for anything, and steady in a crisis. Long before there was Google, there was Loretta. She seemed to know about everything.
Deeply spiritual, Loretta spent her life studying the Bible and nurturing her faith. She found beauty in all things and worked tirelessly to create it in her surroundings. Whether for her family, her friends, or the many “critters” she loved so dearly, she gave her time and energy generously. She had a nostalgic heart, honoring her family’s past while preserving its legacy for future generations.
Loretta cherished her time at Lake Eufaula, where she enjoyed her place beside the water near her mother. There, in their quiet inlet, fishing was as simple as dropping a line—and having a big bucket ready. She loved the outdoors: gardening, fishing, sunset cruises on her pontoon boat, and caring for animals of every kind. Her motto was “Treat People and Critters with Kindness” (TPACK).
Most of all, she loved her children. She was so incredibly proud of her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri Tobey of Phoenix, Arizona, and Kimberly Tobey Miller and husband Larry Miller of Holdenville, Oklahoma; her son, Jerry Tobey, Jr. and his wife Tara Tobey and of Seminole, Oklahoma;
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica Jane Smith Wood and her husband Tyler Wood, Lucas James Smith and his wife April Smith of North Hollywood, California, Makenzie Grace Smith, Phoenix, Arizona;; KrisLee Tobey of Seminole, Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren: London Kimberly Wood of Phoenix, Arizona; and of and the love her life, her beloved tabby, “Bitty,” who never left her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Loretta was a beautiful soul, a survivor, a caretaker, and a source of wisdom and kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
