Late Friday night, parts of Oklahoma experienced a notable seismic event as a 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook the region, leaving residents startled and emphasizing the state’s ongoing seismic activity. The U.S. Geological Survey promptly reported the occurrence, indicating that the earthquake’s magnitude ties it for the fourth-largest rating in the history of the state.

The year 1904 marked a pivotal moment for Holdenville as the completion of the waterworks became imminent. The Holdenville City Council procured 1000 feet of fire hose. Accompanying this acquisition is a reel, and soon hooks and ladders were added to our firefighting arsenal. The foundation for a robust firefighting apparatus was laid, but what became immediately necessary was a corps of trained firemen ready to handle this equipment.

The Holdenville Lions Club began the new year in good fashion. Our first meeting saw us celebrate our Tail Twister – Lion Leon Barrett’s birthday. He was plenty-nine years old on Jan. 2, 2024. He said he was almost the New Years baby, but it just didn’t work out.

HOLDENVILLE RESIDENT SENTENCED FOR MURDER

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Michael David Patton, age 31, of Holdenville, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 210 months in prison for one count of Murder in Indian Country— Second Degree.
