Seventeen years old and with four years’ farming experience, William Newton Stokes arrived in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in 1905 and worked as freight agent and at teaming until 1908, when he was appointed clerk of the Seminole County Court at Konawa, a position he held until 1914.
