Jaylea Harpole/ECU ADA – East Central University’s Linscheid Library is fulfilling its goal of serving populations that otherwise may be overlooked, most recently the Davis Correctional Facility. Linscheid Library recently donated 216 books to the library at the Holdenville-based facility.

One of the distinctive features of World War II as a “total war” (as compared with all the smaller wars in which we’ve subsequently been involved) was the requirement for members of the Armed Forces to be in uniform at all times when they were appearing in public, no matter how far away from a military post or base they might be. There seemed to be an exception for athletes and rodeo performers, but even they had better be back in uniform by the time they left the stadium. I recall once seeing a bomber pilot on horseback in a rodeo parade. He displayed only one minor modification in his service uniform--cowboy boots.

Dear Next Generation, There is much that I have learned in my 70 years on earth—most of it in the last 50 years. It’s important for the younger generation to learn of the successes, failures, and history from those who preceded them.

It seems like everyone I know has serious medical problems. Some are of their own making while others are just a result of being on this planet for so many decades.

The Holdenville Society of Painters and Sculptors announces its 2021 Summer Art Program, which will be held for three weeks in June at the Art Center. Classes are limited to 15 students each.
