Jewel Thomas “JT” “Scooter” Akin, born May 8, 1920, passed away in Ada, Oklahoma on March 8, 2024 at 103 years young. Jewel was born to Thomas “Bud” Akin and Carrie Bell (nee Nalley), on May 8, 1920 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma in a cotton field, literally.

Holdenville Girls Fall in Area The Holdenville High School girls’ basketball team went into the area with high hopes of making it to the state tournament. Very few Wolverine basketball teams have ever made it to state and this squad almost became one of those rare state tournament teams that earned a spot in the bracket.
