Friday the 13th missed it by one day in April but it was close enough to send some bad luck going around, so I decided to put it off a month but the bewitching atmosphere of that special occasion lingers on. Here’s a list of a few who didn’t escape the curse.

Compared to my dad’s life, I had a life of ease. He dropped out of school in the eighth grade to join the CCC, was a war veteran going through hell when he was 18 years old. Returned home with no education or job and became a roughneck since that is all he could find.

JENNIFER LENING NAMED REED ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Reed Elementary’s Teacher of the Year for the 2022/2023 school year is Mrs. Jennifer Lening. Mrs. Lening grew up in Hughes County and graduated from Moss High School in 2005. She earned her associates degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College and went on to earn her bachelors degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. This is Mrs. Lening’s 11th year of teaching and her 7th year at Reed Elementary, where she currently teaches 3rd grade. Her teaching experience ranges from Pre-K to 8th grade and even Elementary P.E. Mrs.

COUNCIL MEMBER JULIE WEST ADDRESSES PUBLIC IN TOWN HALL MEETING

Councilwoman Julie West spoke to the public at a town hall meeting this Saturday afternoon where she spoke to voters (2 brand new to Holdenville) about many topics of interest. She gave much needed information on the lake project, the senior citizens center, the hospital, the airport, and Holdenville’s trash service.

HUGHES COUNTY DA, COMMISSIONERS MEET TO DISCUSS FUTURE OF JAIL

Hughes County District Attorney, Erik Johnson met with Hughes County officials, including the Sheriff and Commissioners Monday to discuss the future of the Hughes County jail which was hit with 56 violations in the last jail report. As the DA explained, the jail is the county’s biggest liability.

I recently celebrated a birthday in the hospital undergoing rigorous therapy for a busted hip. Now I am well, but I can’t whiz through the entrance to airports (like I might be flying) So now, I am older but apparently no wise.
