Lynda DeShield’s honesty and integrity are well known in this community. Lynda moved to Holdenville in 1977 and purchased her salon, Hair Hut in 1978. For over 50 years Lynda has owned and operated a successful business. Lynda recalls first moving here and seeing every building on Main Street and beyond full of business and industry. She remembers the people were kind and seemed to try to work together for the city. It seems that much of that has changed today. There is a small group of people who criticize every city official for every decision they make. They blame every problem on the city government and work to tear the citizens and the city council apart. Lynda’s vision is to repair that relationship once again.

Wendall Dilday of Holdenville passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the age of 71 years. Wendall was born in Ragtown, Oklahoma to Jewett and Inez Dilday.

Chris Ann Burkett passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 56. She was born October 17, 1964 in Corcoran California to Samuel Shumard and Laura Crowden.

Lowell Lee Friend was born February 24, 1940 in Holdenville, OK. He passed peacefully in Sugar Land, TX at the Memorial Hermann Hospital, February 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lee and Anna Hawthorne Friend.

Roberta Shropshire departed this earth to be in Heaven with Jesus on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma at the age of 81. Roberta was born October 25, 1939 in Fairview, Oklahoma to Doyle Thomas Shropshire and Dorothy Inez (Waters) Shrophire.

Betty J. Grizzle passed away at her home in Ada, Oklahoma on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the age of 94 years.

Margaret Siegrist passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 71. Margaret was born August 27, 1949 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Nathan Buck, Sr.

Even though we are in the midst of March Madness, baseball is in the air. A few years ago, I experienced a trip I had long hoped to take: Spring Training baseball in Florida to watch my New York Yankees. I have always loved baseball and watch as many of the Yankees’ games as I can. I suspect my children will watch many of the games as well. You see, baseball is in the DNA of my family. Devotion to baseball was bred into me by my father and I have passed this gene on to my kids.

Given the level of insanity erupting at all levels in America, it wasn’t really a shock when the huge, multinational corporation Unilever announced in early March that it was pulling the word “normal” from at least half of its products.
