Wes Watkins Technology Center recently celebrated the retirement of Superintendent Wade Walling recognizing his 45-year career in education. Beginning in 1977 at Ninnekah Public Schools as a construction trades instructor for at-risk students, Walling discovered how rewarding it could be to help people find purpose and passion in their careers. He later served at Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center coordinating on-the-job training, work-based learning experiences, and CareerTech student organization activities. Later, he became the Director of Business and Industry Services, then Assistant Superintendent. In 2012, he came to WWTC as the Superintendent. Walling was awarded the Oklahoma Vocational Association Outstanding Administrator Award in 1987, the National Career & Technical Education Equity Council Leadership Award in 2009 and named the OASA District 20 Superintendent of the Year in 2020.

HGH responds to increase in COVID 19 cases

On Sunday, November 15, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 3,923 new Covid-19 cases in the state. This brought the state’s cumulative number of confirmed cases up to 154,128. There were 12 Covid related deaths in Oklahoma reported on Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths linked to the virus up to 1,528. The coronavirus.health.gov website shows that all 77 Oklahoma Counties are in the orange, or moderate, risk level, the third highest of a four-tiered risk measurement tool. The orange risk level means there is an average of more that 14.29 daily new cases per 100,000 population. The latest statistics from the Oklahoma State Department of Health show that Hughes County has had a total of 501 positive COVID cases that resulted in 7 deaths and 419 recoveries.
PROTECTIVE DIVIDER - As part of Holdenville General Hospital’s response to an increase in Covid-19 cases the north end of the acute care hallway has been restricted to COVID-19 patients. A temporary divided has been erected to isolate the area. Hospital personnel wear the appropriate personal protective equipment when they enter to provide patient care.
