I won’t get to use that phrase to describe my brother Wayne anymore. He left for Heaven to meet our mother, dad, sisters, a whole swarm of relatives and friends on April 18, 2021.
Why is it so hard to put your spouse first, without expecting anything in return for your absolutely selfless kindness and generosity…sigh? (Yep, I have my tongue tucked way back in my cheek on that one.)
My cousin Jack Reynolds and wife Patsy came to Holdenville for a visit Wednesday. What a great time we had. It had been many years since we had seen them. Jack is the son of the late Ed and Marie Reynolds and was the 1971 HHS Valedictorian.
We Oklahomans recall with pride the fact that noted humorist Will Rogers was from the Sooner State and didn’t mind telling about his heritage to people in Hollywood, Washington DC, the South, overseas and any other place where people would listen.
The year was 1974 and I was a freshman in college. A year full of new experiences, busy schedules, and lots of friends. Amidst all the busyness I still made time to write a letter to my Mom and Dad several times a week. Mom and I had a very close relationship. Given that, you would think it impossible that I could forget my Mother on Mother’s Day. But I did.

Some years, and quite a few Coffeetime Columns ago, we wrote an article called Hellion Alert. It was about Andy recounting a true incident of eating lunch in a restaurant where a small, undisciplined child was wreaking havoc while the mother ignored it all.
Are we, at last, in the final days of this great Pandemic? Some sources still run on about fresh outbreaks in scattered places, but the overall picture is good. Cases are declining. Each week hundreds of thousands are receiving their shots. Over. Millions have already had the dread disease while many others think the thing was a hoax. But as the number of those who have had COVID increase and the number of those vaccinated meld we approach something called herd immunity. Soon? Yes.
