OHP: Hughes County woman dies after vehicle rolls

A Hughes County woman died after the car she was driving rolled over, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. OHP investigators reported Shirley Snow, 83, of Calvin, died in a single-vehicle incident Thursday afternoon about three miles west of Stuart.

Tuesday night, August 24, Holdenville Police officers responded to a call of a possible grand theft auto in progress at the Dollar General Store in Holdenville. Upon making contact with the suspect, Missy Harjo, she began to flee the scene in her car which led to a multi-county, multi-agency pursuit.

Latest COVID report shows decrease in county

There were 31 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hughes County last week. Slightly less than the 43 reported two weeks ago, but officials say we are not out of the woods yet. Cases continue to rise across the state. Integris Health, SSM Health and Mercy each reported that they had no available intensive-care unit beds. OU Health said it has no available beds for COVID-19 patients.

Red Hatters meet at Tomato Patch for August luncheon

The Red Hat Ladies met for their monthly meeting on August 14. Hostesses were Diane Bowman and Glenda Stinson. They had chosen the Tomato Patch in Tecumseh at the Farmer’s Daughter Market for their monthly meeting. The tables were decorated with a burlap runner covered with vines and sunflowers. Glenda’s husband, Wayne, had made special center pieces with Red Hats. It was so cute!

Timber & Addie Powell Covered Wewoka and Chesley, Destiny & J.C. Slater and Kate Rogers covered Holdenville with flyers promoting a Benefit for the Rory Stricklin Family and the Wewoka Vet Hospital Staff. There will be an ICE CREAM SOCIAL BENEFIT at Stroup Park On Saturday, August 28th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. It is on a donation basis, all funds go to the Stricklin Family and their employees at the clinic. A photographer will be on hand to take pictures of your family with an Ice Cream background set up made by Sister Act III Gift Shop. Photos will be given to Jamie Stricklin to be able to show her children how many people came out to honor their daddy. Rory gave us his all, now it is our turn to show his family how much we love them. Hope to see you there!

WHY join 4H? Great question!! Holdenville 4H is a positive and fun after school club where Students will have the opportunity to learn leadership skills, participate in community service projects, learn from various monthly guest speakers, and interact with other community organizations. We are a program that will be dedicated to teaching the youth not only about agriculture but about essential life skills to help our members reach their fullest potential. Livestock showing and judging opportunities on a local, county and state level will have a place in our club but are not a requirement for membership.
