Holdenville Wolverines get ready for season
Holdenville Wolverines hold inter-squad scrimmage.
Holdenville head football coach, Monte Lewis, is excited about the Wolverines’ chances of putting a competitive team on the field this season. Coach Lewis was all smiles after putting his squad through an inter-squad scrimmage last Friday. “We’re going to win some games.” the veteran coach said. “I’m not saying we’re going to go undefeated, but I think we’re going to be a lot better and we’re going to win some games!”
The inter-squad scrimmage was good. There were some good plays made on both sides of the ball and although the average fan had a hard time deciding what was good and what was average it was obvious the Wolverines are going to be competitive.
Covid alters the schedule.
Konawa was supposed to be the opponent in Holdenville’s first scrimmage but a a case of the Covid virus sidelined the Tigers for the first two weeks of practice. Now, Holdenville has had to put all of its activities on old for a similar reason. The Wolverines are scheduled to face off with Checotah this week but the Covid bug has hit the school and everything is on hold.
Holdenville opens the season on September 4 when the Wewoka comes to town for the traditional rivalry clash and hopefully there won’t be any more virus-related problems will interfere with the contest.
