Looking Back... The Year Was 1951

Body
The home economics department is quite busy once more. This time serving the Knife-Fork banquet tonight in the high school study hall. The menu includes chicken pie, green beans, tossed salad, corn, pudding, hot rolls, butter, coffee and cherry float. With this menu designed to fill you up with good food, you can see that the home-make girls and the two teachers, Mrs. Veach and Mrs. Stiewig will be pretty busy, but they are not the only ones; this banquet includes a job for every member of the faculty from coffee-making to dishwashing. Proceeds will pay previous school obligations.

Holdenville Water Crisis Averted Parts of County Still Without

Body
What started with an minor water leak on 13 Street and North Bullitt became the start of a major crisis faced by the City of Holdenville. A 2 inch water line break at 13th and North Bullitt caused major obstacles in travel down North Hinckley between 12th Street and 13th Street when it turned to frozen sheets of ice down 12th and across Hinckley over Valentine’s Day weekend. The ice and snow covered ground along with subzero temperatures made it impossible to dig and fix the broken line. While the ice-covered roads were a problem, this leak had little effect on the city’s water production which had maintained a normal level over the weekend.
