Some retire from a job so they can rest, Johnny and Pam Gordon retired so they could get more work done. Even in the twilight of their life, nothing has slowed down in the Gordon home. Johnny was mowing the lawn the first time I came by, so I waited for him to finish and stopped by for one of the most wonderful visits I’ve ever had.

Hughes County and Holdenville Sales Tax Returns Up for Month, Year

The May 2021 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from March business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from March 16th to 31st and estimated sales from April 1st to the 15th.

Retirement Ceremony Honors Lt. Colonel Bill Wilkinson

Lt. Colonel Bill Wilkinson began his military career in 1985 when he joined the Wyoming Air National Guard and became a Medical Technician. Two years later he married his true love, Julie, who was a flight nurse in the 187 Aeromedical Evacuation Group along with him.

HALO Fundraising Dinner June 4

The Holdenville Animal Lover’s Organization (HALO) will be once again be hosting their annual fundraising “Spay-ghetti and No Balls” Dinner with Silent Auction on Friday, June 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. This is the organizations largest benefit of the year, and they are hoping for an exceptionally large turn out after the COVID-19 virus prevented last year’s event.

Mayor Appoints Chickasaw Lactation Specialist to Hospital Board

Congratulations to the newest member of the Holdenville Hospital Board, Laura Robinson. Laura has worked for the Chickasaw Nation WIC office and Chickasaw Nation Medical Center for over five years as a lactation specialist, lactation counselor and nutrition specialist. She regularly educates nurses in the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center women’s clinic in breastfeeding education to help promote breastfeeding to pregnant women and help assist with breastfeeding questions and concerns.
