Hamilton Files Measure Prohibiting Foreign-Owned Businesses from Purchasing Oklahoma Lands

OKLAHOMA CITY – As a rancher in Southeastern Oklahoma, Sen. Warren Hamilton has seen the impact of Oklahoma lands being purchased by foreign entities. The McCurtain Republican says it’s time the legislature puts a stop to these transactions and has filed Senate Bill 1469 to clarify that foreign ownership of Oklahoma lands is prohibited, even from business entities and trusts.

Hughes County Sheriff Cuts Ties with Muscogee Nation in Facebook Post; Tribe Responds

HOLDENVILLE, Oklahoma – Hughes County Sheriff’s Office has released a letter stating the organization will “no longer be honoring” their cross-deputization agreements with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police. The letter dated February 8 came from a Facebook post from the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office late evening February 9. The post included a document authored by Hughes County Sheriff Marcia Maxwell. The letter reads as follows:

In a narrow vote of 310 to 266, Holdenville voters voted to give up their right to elect all city positions except for five council seats. The city will change from aldermanic to council-manager (city manager) form of government.
