Some years ago, I wrote an article, as well as made a few speeches, concerning what forms of taxation are better or worse than others. The answer is that property taxes are by far the worst for two reasons.

Construction is underway on a long-discussed water transfer project designed to move excess water from Holdenville’s old lake to the city’s newer reservoir during periods of heavy inflow, a step city officials say will help better manage available water during drought conditions.

Doyle Eugene Wingo passed away in Holdenville on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the age of 92 years. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 11, 1:30pm at First Baptist Church in Holdenville, with interment following at Holdenville Cemetery.

A familiar name in Holdenville was part of a historic moment for East Central University athletics last week, as the 1995 ECU softball team—the first squad ever fielded by the program—was inducted into the ECU Athletic Hall of Fame.
