Around Town...by John Bill Martin

Body
July 4 middle of the year July 4 is many things — a day off from work, maybe a trip to the beach with friends, or a barbecue with family, celebrating the birth of our Nation, etc. But did you ever realize it also roughly marks the halfway point through the year we are struggling through. HOLDENVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW AIRPORT BOARD

Body
After failing at the last council meeting, Holdenville Mayor Ron Thetford managed to get his friend James Welch appointed to the new Holdenville Airport Board at last Tuesday’s City Council Meeting, despite all the controversy. How it was done was unorthodox, to say the least. Instead of each board member being voted on individually, the agenda item read to “discuss and possibly approve” appointing the entire airport board at once. While this is allowed by law, it is certainly a stark contrast from voting yes/ no on each individual appointment which is customary for most board appointments.
