Holdenville Girls win Tiger Classic The Holdenville High School girls’ basketball team opened the new year with a hot hand! The Lady Wolverines played four games in a span of 5 days and won all four contests. The Wolverines opened the busy week with a 43-35 win over Allen and followed up with three victories in the Tiger Classic at Konawa High School.
The Holdenville varsity girls basketball team capped off a four win week with a 42-40 win over North Rock Creek in the finals of the Konawa Tournament! Holdenville defeated Allen, Rock Creek, Tishomingo and North Rock Creek this past week to post a perfect four win week.

Council Approves Law Enforcement Items

A trio of items during the January 5 City Council meeting focused on the effort to tackle the problem of theft and other crimes in the community. This included an agreement with Oklahoma Mutual Assurance Group (OMAG) to install GPS in police vehicles, the hiring of a new police officer, and the acquisition of T-Mobile phones for the Neighborhood Watch program.
A SPECIAL THANKS to our Lake Superintendent Waylon Ford for installing several new awnings around various lake camp sites. Waylon is one of the city’s hardest working employees and an invaluable asset to our community.

Local Musician Celebrates New Album Release

Holdenville musician Boone Griffin has played bass guitar with a number of impressive local and regional bands over the years. For the past two years he has been a vital member of the Tanner Sparks Band. Tanner Sparks is a 22-year-old up and coming singer/songwriter from east Texas who performs “Old Fashioned Country Music.” His baritone voice fits the songs he writes like a custom made pair of boots. Many of the songs are about heart break and hard drinking that bring to mind country music legends such as George Jones or Hank Williams Sr., but with Tanner’s own, unique sound and style.

State Universities Shine in Bowl Games Oklahoma’s three division I football schools played well in their respective bowl games. Oklahoma State defeated Miami 37-34 in the Cheez-It Bowl.
HOLDENVILLE WOLVERINE, LEISHA PHILLIPS has her eye on the basket prior to sinking another freethrow. Holdenville players, coaches and fans have their eyes and ears focused on the remaining part of the basketball season. The Wolverines are scheduled to play Allen on Tuesday and travel to Konawa for the Tiger Classic on Thursday.
