When my son was 4 years old, he loved all things “construction” and was in his glory when he received a yellow plastic dump truck for his birthday. Jumping up and down excitedly, he begged me to take him to the park right away. At the sandbox, his eyes sparkled with delight as he made “vroom vroom” and “beep beep” noises, filling and emptying his truck with sand. He was in a state of utter bliss and could have played with his truck for hours. But, all of a sudden, he glimpsed something behind me and his face clouded over. I turned to see another boy arriving at the park. He was holding a dump truck: it was big, red, and had flashing lights and sounds. The glee my son had experienced only moments ago was replaced by disappointment, as he looked at his smaller, more “basic” truck. Pretty soon, he asked to leave and go home.

Good morning to you. Well January is over and it is already February. So glad it is closer to Spring! Have you ever noticed how the world is into sharing. It’s becoming the favorite term for posting messages on Facebook, messenger, etc. We share everything about ourselves now – too much! What we are feeling, doing, thinking, what we have purchased, what we have eaten, and what our pet are up to. Never have so people shared so much online, even if what they are sharing is strictly about their lives.

S&E TOYS AND MORE - The Holdenville Chamber of Commerce welcomed S&E Toys and More to the business community with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Friday, January 22. The business is located at 110 West Main Street and is owned and operated by Shannon and Ollie Teel.

The Holdenville City Council spent almost 30 minutes of their January 19 meeting discussing how to balance the need to support the police department while also being good stewards of the taxpayers money.

Holdenville Fire Department responded to last Tuesday to an abandoned house fire on the 200 block of South Hinckley. This is the third time the fire department has responded to a fire at this location. It is believed to be arson but there were no injuries and there no suspects at this time.

A string of break-ins and burglaries in Holdenville in recent weeks including Perry’s Ford, Johnny’s Appliance, County Building Center, the Holdenville School’s Baseball/Softball field house, and the Holdenville Airport has resulted in a interagency law enforcement manhunt for the prime suspect, Tiberius Dodson. Dodson is wanted in connection with multiple break-ins and burglaries in the Holdenville and Wewoka communities. A property owner in the 600 block of South Echo found and confronted Dodson inside of his property. Dodson jumped out a back window, turned and fired shots at the property owner before fleeing and making his escape. Multiple departments and state agencies are still actively pursuing Dodson across two counties.
