One of the deficiencies in language is that we have one word to describe a myriad of objects or situations. This is certainly true when it comes to human relationships. The term friend has been stretched and co-opted to cover the gamut of human interaction. The digital age has brought us many wonderful benefits. Among them is the opportunity to stay in communication with people in our lives either personally or professionally. Unfortunately, the term friend has come to define anyone with whom we have direct or indirect contact.

Tribes Go AWOL on McGirt Response

Tribal-government officials say they can handle the new responsibilities placed on them as the result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma, which effectively declared most of eastern Oklahoma to be the reservation land of the Muscogee, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw and Seminole nations.

Well known local resident, Anthony “Buddy” Wood and Brian Palmer will meet again in an August 7th runoff which is required to seat the Assistant Chief position of the Seminole Nation. Section 7 of the tribe’s constitution states, “If a candidate for Chief or Assistant Chief does not receive the required majority of votes cast, a run-off election shall be held four weeks after the first election, and subject to all the rules and requirements of a regular general election. In the event of a run-off election, only the names of the two candidates with the highest number of votes shall appear on the ballot.”
