MCGIRT FAMILY HOPES RETRIAL SUCCESSFUL

Body
The name “McGirt” became a household word following “The McGirt Decision.” This decision was a significant legal victory for Native American rights in which the Supreme Court determined that the Indian reservations in Oklahoma were never disestablished and crimes by Native Americans on these lands falls into the jurisdiction of the tribal courts and federal judiciary instead of the state level. However, Jimcy McGirt, who had taken the case to the Supreme Court, gained little from that decision.

Save-a-Lot Grocery

Body
One early morning in March of 1962, my family was awakened by smoke and flames billowing out of our grocery store at 924 N. Hinckley.
Saturday will mark the Grand Re-Opening of a grocery store that has served this area for over 80 years. The name has changed from Burton’s IGA to Save-a-Lot but it is still family owned by the Burton’s daughter, Linda and her husband John Gibbs. The original store is pictured above. We recently found the story published the week that the present location had their grand opening in May 1962.
