Wolverines Drop Double Overtime Thriller Holdenville traveled to Purcell for a first round play-off contest and it was obvious from the very start that the teams were evenly matched. The 20-20 tie that was posted on the scoreboard provided plenty of evidence to make that statement a fact.
Holdenville’s #7 Gage Smith, and Purcell’s # 54, Carter Goldston, look on as the referee gives instruction on the overtime coin flip. Gage won the flip and the Wolverines chose to play defense first. The game went to double overtime before Purcell was able to score and win the game.

HOLDENVILLE – WOLVERINES BEAT WOLVES 19-13; THOMASON SHINES 10 of 13 Holdenville Passes Completed; Bobbles Nip Visitors A surprising Holdenville eleven rose to the highest peak of the season here last night to wrest an upset 19-13 triumph from the Shawnee Wolves, as little Jimmie Thomason passed, ran, kicked and tackled viciously to lead his mates back into the win column, after trailing 7-6 at the half. From the opening play, when Thomason fell on the Holdnville kickoff in the end zone for six points, until the last whistle, the Wolverines played inspired ball, with big Art Janes leading a line that leaded badly in the center but made up by aggressive, headsup play, capitalizing on three Shawnee miscues to sew up the ball game.
