“HEARIN’ YOUR STINKIN’ THINKIN’”

Body
The boy sure had learned some choice words, no doubt about it. In the school room, on the playground, and at home, he kept getting into trouble on a regular basis for his rather colorful way of expressing his thoughts and feelings. Making it worse, his friends often pushed his buttons to make him angry enough to sound off in no uncertain terms.

Coffee Time

The man had a heart attack. His cardiologist then told him he had to walk at least forty-five minutes daily, the rest of his life. So off he went, just like the mailman – rain, sleet, snow, or burning sun. Walking became a regular part of his days.

Around Town

Body
This is a special tribute to those people who were born between 1930 and 1946 or those of you who might know or have known someone from this era: People born during this special time in our country (includes me, of course) are between 76 and 92 years old. Al Wilburn has heard of a few of these things and maybe you are, are know someone.

Family Greetings

Body
Here’s something I’ll bet you haven’t spent much time thinking about: how do you greet people? Or to put a finer point on the pencil, how do you greet family members? Years ago, when I was a little kid, I would often see my Dad pull his car in the driveway at the end of his workday. I would run to the window near the back door he always entered and as he started to pass by, I would rap twice on the glass.

“BETTER VERSION OF GETTING OLDER”

Body
Like so many of us, I have a lot of my family and friends’ birthdates in my phone’s calendar, and I have it set to notify me when a loved one’s birthday is on the horizon. I prefer to tell myself that “I have so many family members now, and combined with all my friends, I can’t possibly remember all those birthdates anymore.” But truthfully, probably just getting too lazy and too dependent upon my phone reminding me. Tend to take the easy way out when it is available.

Escape for the Patriotic Season

Body
One, Two, Free! The Fourth of July weekend was approaching, and Miss Pelham, the nursery school teacher, took the opportunity to tell her class about patriotism. We live in a great country,’ she announced. “One of the things we should be happy is that, in this country, we are all free.” Trevor, who was a little boy in her class, came walking up to her from the back of the room. He stood with his hands on his hips and said loudly, “I’m not free. I’m four.” Those Days. Father William, the old priest, made it a practice to visit the parish school one day a week. He walked into the 4th grade class, where the children were studying the states, and asked them how many states they could name.
