Rev. Harrell Rodebush passed away recently. He is our former pastor and a dear friend. He and his wife, Carol, made an incredible team and our local church showed tremendous growth during their time here. As we visited with the family, we recalled so many wonderful memories. My mom and dad loved the family as do we.

CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD, IT’S JUST DORMANT

Body
“Chivalry is one of the great civilizing forces, taming men and introducing social graces and nuance to what would otherwise be a brutish social world.” Heather MacDonald Chivalry, that testosterone-fueled masculine behavioral art form that has benefited womankind since we climbed out of the Dark Ages seems to have taken a hit in recent years. LETTER TO THE EDITOR...BY TOM ADAMS

Body
Dear Bill: I promised you in my last letter that I would never again bother/bore you and your readers with a story about Gene Autry. However, since receiving your January 20 issue and since I have some additional information on our hero I must break my promise. I ask for your forgiveness and being the God-fearing man that I know you to be, I’m confident that you will do this.

Billye Modene Venable Treadwell was born January 11, 1934, to Sterling and Manda Venable. She was the youngest of 4 siblings and grew up on a farm in the Bilby/Spaulding area south of Holdenville. Hoeing peanuts, milking, churning, and her least favorite, picking cotton were daily chores for Billye and her siblings. Before she was old enough to work in the fields, and underfoot in the house with her mom, she was tasked with getting the mail, a quarter mile down the lane. She often rode her stick horse because it was “too far to walk.”
