George Llwyn Wood was the son of George and Edna (Burris) Wood, born on May 30, 1935, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. George was brought up and attended school in Holdenville, graduating Holdenville High School with the class of 1953. He went on to play football at Coffeyville Junior College in Coffeyville, Kansas and the University of Tulsa. He then went on to play football and study Business at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
