Larry “Byrd” Gene Harris

Larry “Byrd” Gene Harris passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Talihina, Oklahoma at the age of 75.

Larry was born May 4, 1948 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to Thomas William Harris and Grace Alene (Davis) Harris. He graduated from Sasakwa High School. Larry married Alma Joyce Jones. He worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester in the Track Maintenance Department. Larry enjoyed his grandkids, old cars, fishing, sports and family. Larry served in the U.S. Army serving four tours in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joyce; and siblings, Tommy Dale Harris, Charles Harris, David Harris and Arnetta Harjo.

He is survived by his children, James Harris and wife Susannah of Holdenville, and Bernita Bowhuis of Holdenville; grandchildren Billy Price and wife Starla, Reese Harris, Zoe Harris, and Knox Harris; greatgrandchildren Liam Price, Brayden Price, and one on the way; siblings Sue Giles and husband Edward of Holdenville, Nancy Conley of Wewoka and Roy Harris of Wewoka. Larry is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 9th, at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Sisco officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

Pallbearers are Bruce Epperley, Keith Byerly, Jerry Brown, Jay Harjo, David Conley and Bubba Giles. Honorary pallbearers are Ozell Jones, and Clyde Byerly.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Oklahoma.
