Lamona Carpenter
Lamona Carpenter was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on April 6, 1932, to Lillie Mae (St. John) Holman and Pleamon Carol Holman.
Following a brief illness, Lamona passed on September 14, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma surrounded by her family.
Lamona graduated from Holdenville High School in 1950. She met and later married her lifelong partner, Leon Carpenter, on August 9, 1950. She worked at Seamprufe for years before her long-term employment as a bank teller at First United Bank where she was a customer favorite. After retirement, she and Leon spent time working on their Spaulding home and acreage. Lamona loved landscaping the property and taking daily walks down the lane.
They later moved to Wewoka where Lamona remained until Leon’s passing in 2015. She then moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Shawnee.
Lamona “Nanny” loved her grand and great grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was famous for her chicken and dumplings, fried pork chops, potato salad, hot rolls, and fried pies. Lamona was always active and enjoyed gardening, especially raking fall leaves for the grandkids to jump into.
She is survived by daughters Linda Carpen ter-Rhodes of Norman and Sandy and Larry Smith of Shawnee, grandchildren Ryan and Michele Smith of Shawnee, Kelli and Robert Woods of Moore, great grandchildren Jacob Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Addison Woods, and Mackenzie Woods, nieces Denise Goodson and Stephanie Mankins.
Lamona was preceded in death by her husband Leon, son-in-law James Rhodes, parents, brothers Kerwin Holman and Boyne Holman.
Lamona leaves behind a legacy of love and caring for her family. We were fortunate to have her in our lives and will cherish her memory forever.
