Our sympathy is extended to the family of James Kunkel

Dr. James Albert Kunkel died September 1, 2022 from natural causes. He was born June 29, 1932 to Murray Kunkel and Florence Winters. He attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma where he met a Registered Nurse, Greta Sue Counts. They fell in love and were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Kunkel interned at the Cleveland Clinic and then joined the staff of the Marshfield clinic in Wisconsin as an ophthalmologist. After retirement he traveled extensively around the United States with Sue in their 40-foot motorhome for several years. They built a home in Sarasota, Florida and settled into retired life.

In recent years they moved back to Oklahoma remaining in Midwest City for a time and most recently moved to Holdenville.

Dr. Kunkel was an amateur radio operator, enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing tennis with Sue, travel and time with family. Doctor Kunkel is survived by Sue, his wife of 65 years, his children; Julie, Dan, Ben, and Tim. Grandchildren; Lorena, Bonnie, Olivia, Kai, Liya, Katie, Tommy, Kengo, and Aina Sue. Great-grandchildren; Juliet, Alex, Rosie, and Adam.
