Holdenville Softball team working hard
Wolverine Softball girls down Byng 8-5
The Holdenville Wolverine traveled to Byng last Monday and defeated an extremely good Pirate softball team by a score of 8-5. Kaden Morris swung the big stick for the Wolverines. Morris gave the Wolverines a couple of insurance runs when she came to bat with two outs and stroked a double that propelled two Holdenville runners across the plate. The two runs gave the Wolverines a three run lead and provided the final winning margin.
Holdenville Head Coach, Sarah Morgan was quick to praise her teams defensive play. The Wolverines performed under pressure when Byng loaded the bases with no one out late in the game. The Wolverines rallied to the cause and produced three outs and denied a single Pirate runner from crossing the plate. Morgan was especially pleased with her infields play in the last inning. The second year Wolverine coach proudly praised her team’s ability to throw out runners and keep Byng from scoring runners from third.
Holdenville run rules Idabel
The Wolverines made the long trip to Idabel on Tuesday and trounced the Warriors in a run rule shortened contest. Coach Morgan was able to play all her players in the 8-0 victory. Morgan summed up the district win by saying it was good to be able to give so many of her team members some playing time.
Holdenville shines in Prague Tournament
The Wolverines made an excellent showing in the Prague Tournament this past weekend.
Although the Wolverines opened the tournament with a 0-8 loss to Beggs, Holdenville did bounce back to run rule Class 5A Santa Fe South by a score of 14-2.
Holdenville continued to play well and defeated the host Prague team 5-0. The win over Prague set up a rematch with Beggs and this time the Wolverines took the Demons to extra innings before losing 3-5.
What’s Next
The Wolverines have one opponent on their schedule this week. Holdenville is scheduled to travel to Hugo on Tuesday but the contest is in doubt because of a Covid related temporary shut down of all school activities.
