The Holdenville football team has had a week of hot August practices under their belt and was looking forward to their first scrimmage of the season. Their opponent was to be Konawa but one of the members of the Tiger football team tested positive for Covid. The positive test has had negative effect on the Konawa football team. The Tigers have been quarantined for two weeks. The Holdenville scrimmage had to be cancelled and Konawa will be forced to forfeit their season opener.

Holdenville Head Coach Monte Lewis said the Wolverines will have some sort of inter-squad scrimmage this week and will approach next week’s scrimmage with Checotah with caution.

Coach Lewis reminded his team to keep the face masks on and keep social distancing.

According to Coach Lewis the positive Konawa test has a spiderweb effect on multiple schools and their athletic teams.

The Holdenville coaching squad is looking forward to a better football season. The Wolverines were extremely young and inexperienced last year and certainly took their lumps. This year however, there are 34 players out for the team, and they are older and have a year of experience. The players have grown in stature as well as football savvy and the team should be much better.
