Holdenville, OK - In a recent City Council meeting, it was announced that the City of Holdenville’s new contract with GFL Solid Waste Management is set to commence on February 1. The council discussed various aspects of the agreement, shedding light on important details that will impact residents and businesses in the area.

Hughes County Conservation District and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oklahoma are holding the second public meeting for the Little Wewoka Watershed Project. The meeting will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First United Bank (102 East Main Street) in Holdenville. The meeting will be format-ted as an open house, so community members are welcome to stop by anytime during its two-hour timeframe. No formal presentations will be given.

Oleta Jewel Smith, 92, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2023. Oleta recently lived in Piedmont, OK but lived in Muskogee from 1966 to 2021. She was born November 2, 1931 in Spaulding, Oklahoma to Harve Hilton Whaley and Beulah Lucas Whaley. After the death of her Mother, Beulah, she was raised by her Aunt Hester and Uncle Lawrence Byerly of Spaulding. Oleta grew up in Spaulding where she completed her High School Education at Spaulding High School in 1950.

RURAL WATER DISTRICT 6 RECEIVES $1,000,000 GRANT FROM OWRB

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Hughes County Rural Water District No. 6 (District) received approval for $1,000,000 in funding Thursday from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the District’s water infrastructure. Construction of upgrades and improvements to the water system will be financed by the Oklahoma American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant program.

HOLDENVILLE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES 5% WATER RATE INCREASE FOR RURAL WATER DISTRICTS 3 AND 5

Holdenville, OK- In a unanimously approved recent Holdenville City Council session, City Manager Larry Mitchell presented a proposal for a 5% water rate increase for Rural Water Districts 3 and 5, citing the need to address essential infrastructure maintenance and improvements. Mitchell informed the council that there had been no rate adjustments for these districts since 2015.
